Sustainability is a prime goal of our society, whether we want it be or not. What this means is ways of life that can last for tens of thousands of years (essentially forever), not short-sighted decisions that our society is largely based on now. Renewables are one component of this.
But sustainability is not just an ecological issue. It’s also about being able to get along well with each other — communication skills, decision-making, conflict resolution — as well as sustainability on the personal and economic levels.
Every candidate should be evaluated based on the sustainability of their platform and their personal lifestyle. This is central to me, as a person with a much smaller footprint than the average American and an organizer of sustainability courses as a day job. This is not just lip service to “the environment” as one talking point – our life starts and ends with the life all around us.
